- Rachel speaks 4 languages (English, Dutch & French fluently, conversational German)
- Cynthia has immigrated to 2 different countries (Canada & the Netherlands)
- As a child of 11, Rachel once went on an animal safari and shot dozens and dozens of images... with no film in her camera (first and only time that ever happened!)
- Cynthia's father (a carpenter) got to name one of the streets in Troy, MI and has built most of the homes on that street
Our Team
Rachel van Rossum-Thorp is Shutterbug's owner, as well as the primary photographer and designer. Her passion for photography goes back over a decade to when she got her first camera as a child.
Making her way from crooked and poorly lit snapshots of her bedroom and cats to the beautiful images she captures today, Rachel has grown and developed her skill and style.
After years of shooting for fun and for fundraiser events, Rachel launched Shutterbug Portraits & Design in 2005 and has been growing ever since.
With the motto "have camera, will travel" Rachel captures the world through her lens, one moment at a time, seeking to preserve her own memories, and yours.

Cynthia van Rossum is our VP of Sales, as well as shoot coordinator and photographer's assistant. With extensive experience as photo subject for Rachel's work growing up, she has an eye for details that help make every shoot run more smoothly.
Supporting event and portrait shoots, Cynthia acts as point person to help coordinate large shoots and helps maintain a high level of quality.
